" We all travel through this existence as witnesses to life's events. How each and every one of us
experiences these events results in shared perspectives and insights unique to each of us unto ourselves.

As African people, our life experience and understanding, as individuals and as a collective group, are
unique due to the texture of our realities. We must claim our stories and write our stories so that we can
be about letting folks know, when confronted by facts and characterizations not exactly hitting the mark
and borrowing from my dear Brother Gil Scott Heron, '.... this version wasn't mine which is why it is called
'His story' ". -- Sister Karen Hatter

BET Has To Do Better asks why is it, given all of those of African descent on the
executive board at BET, the network has only created a 'mirror', in the form of Hot
Ghetto Mess, to address certain manifestations in our community, instead of
some concrete form of action?
